The Lefty Cycles Project to donate bicycles to Sound Community Services

New London — Sound Community Services and The Lefty Cycles Project are collaborating to help clients of Sound Community Services.

On Friday, The Lefty Cycles Project will donate four bicycles to two Sound Community Services residential programs during a private outdoor event. The donation comes as part of Mental Health Awareness Month.

Founded by Dylan Howley in 2020, The Lefty Cycles Project’s mission “is to perpetuate, manifest, deliver and apply Goodness to our Recovering community by delivering bicycles for transportation, exercise, hobby, or sport.”

Howley, who was born and raised in New London, will attend Friday’s event and share his story of recovery and elaborate on the mission of Lefty Cycles. On May 2, 2021, Howley celebrated his 15th year of sobriety and the organization was created through his passion for cycling, overcoming obstacles and helping people in recovery by sharing his story.

“We are so grateful to be not only the beneficiary of such a wonderful gift, but also to benefit from Dylan’s own personal journey. I have followed his growth over the past few years, and I’m inspired by his courage and generosity,” said Gino DeMaio, CEO of Sound Community Services, which assists people with behavioral disorders and addiction.
