Norwich grads get $1,000 scholarships

On May 25, Sankofa Education and Leadership Inc. hosted a year-end celebration to honor and recognize 24 high school students from Norwich who participated in a yearlong educational, enrichment and mentorship program sponsored by AT&T Foundation.

This program engaged high school students to be better prepared to become tomorrow’s leaders.

Twelve graduating seniors were awarded $1,000 to continue their pursuit of college or a career. The recipients were all Norwich Free Academy students except one, as noted: Ericka Alfred, Ann’Darhaly Barbot, Celina Centeio, Amy Contreras, Essoha Kadambaya (Science and Technology Magnet High School in New London), Miles King, Karen Lau, Jahnessa McQuary-Wuller, Joceline Rodrigues Monteiro, Marie Toussaint, Haley Vitko and Valeria Yraita-Zevallos.
