Waterford — Friends Richard Walter, Frank Laughlin and Josh Mortensen were joined by others Tuesday as they went spearfishing at Waterford Beach.

The men, who are all in the Navy, had the day off work from their jobs at the Naval Submarine Base. "A little rain wouldn't stop us, we're getting wet anyways, it's kind of nice to have the whole beach to ourselves," Laughlin said.

"A day off work and we're back at the water," Walter said. The men have all been spearfishing for a few years and had some luck catching flounder Tuesday. "Mainly we've just seen a lot of horse crabs mating," he said.
