Recount in single Old Lyme zoning race affirms win

Old Lyme — A recount of votes Monday night in the race for a five-year seat on the Zoning Commission did not change the outcome.

Democrat Mary Jo Nosal beat Republican Sloan Danenhower by 1,600 votes to 1,594. The Election Day count had the Democrat up by seven votes.

Nosal's term will begin in November 2022.

Town Clerk Vicki Urbowicz said a recount was avoided in the Board of Finance alternate race because Democrat Sarah E. Michaelson, who lost to Democrat Katherine Thuma by nine votes, waived her right to the recanvass.

A recount is triggered when the margin is within 20 votes or 0.5% of the total vote, according to state statute.
