Make A Difference - Safe Futures

Who: Hannah, 28, and her two boys, 3 and 5

Agency: Safe Futures, an organization that provides free and confidential services for those impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and trafficking in southeastern Connecticut.

Their situation: Hannah married her husband in her early 20s and relocated with him to southeastern Connecticut from the Midwest. He controlled her every move, isolated her from talking to her family, did not allow her to work or have a bank account. She was too afraid of him to tell anyone. The beatings became more severe during the pandemic. She contacted police who referred her to Safe Futures.  With the help of Safe Futures staff, she and her boys have just moved into their own apartment, and she has a temporary driver's permit. Since she never had a job or bank account, her focus is to work on being financially independent and raise her boys in a loving home without fear or violence. Hannah is struggling financially as her estranged husband only provides minimal child support payments.

What to give: Funds to help buy a car, gift cards for groceries and necessities, boys winter clothing size 5T and size 3T, Paw Patrol, Dinosaurs, learning toys, twin bedding and cleaning supplies.

To Donate: Safe Futures, ATTN: Make a Difference 2021, 16 Jay St., New London, CT 06320; cash donations also can be made available online at www.SafeFuturesCT.org/donate; enter Make a Difference in note.
