Make A Difference: Opportunities Industrialization Center of New London County
Who: Three students who don’t have the means to provide their children with Christmas gifts.
Agency: OIC New London County, founded in 1970, trains socio-economically underprivileged women and men to give them the skills they need to enter the labor market and transform their lives and communities.
The situation: New London-based Opportunities Industrialization Center currently has 20 students, many of them homeless. Some are coming out of abusive relationships and some have been incarcerated. They are looking for a better way of life and OIC is here to help them, not only with training for employment but to give them the confidence to go after opportunities that are available.
What to give: Toys would be greatly appreciated. The ages of the children are from 3 to 14, and there are 10 of them: six girls and four boys. OIC also is looking for resources to help the students live more comfortably with things such as hygiene products for men, women and teens.
To donate: Donations can be dropped off at OIC, 106 Truman St., New London; (860) 447-1731.
