More than a Month: Black History

Welcome to The Day’s More than a Month special section.

The Day has been trying to do a better job at covering the entire community we serve by including voices we don’t consistently cover or hear from. This first special section focusing on Black history is just the start of that.

We feature unique Black-owned businesses in the region; revisit past winners of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. scholarship to ask: ‘Where are they now?’; and interview some of the brightest activists and leaders in the community.

Our promise to our readers is to do better and feature stories not just in this section but in the newspaper that highlight and celebrate how minorities help shape and cultivate the community where we live and work.

The More than a Month special section will come out quarterly, starting with Black History; followed by Pride, Hispanic Heritage and Native American months.

If you have any stories ideas that you feel I should know about, please reach out to me at i.larraneta@theday.com

    Thank you,

Izaskun Larrañeta, managing editor and chair of The Day’s Diversity Committee
