Online discussion planned for Feb. 17 on public art in Norwich

Norwich — The Cultural Coalition of Southeastern Connecticut will host an online community conversation about public art in Norwich on Thursday, Feb. 17, from 6 to 7:15 p.m. via Zoom.

Leaders from the Cultural Coalition, Norwich Community Development Corporation, Global City Norwich and the city will provide updates about their 2022 activities, specifically with the American Rescue Plan Act, or ARP, funds and as part of a coordinated plan in which public art plays a role.

Norwich residents and community members will engage in an interactive mapping session to help identify places and spaces in the city where public art, such as murals, sculptures, lighting projects, performances and events, could be added to contribute to the city’s identity, foster community pride and a sense of belonging, and enhance the quality of life for its residents and visitors.

The meeting will include information from the Cultural Coalition about ARP funds and investment in and creation of new public art in Norwich, projects in the pipeline and how such art is relevant. Participants include NCDC President Kevin Brown, Norwich Planning Director Deanna Rhodes, Assistant City Planner Dan Daniska, Castle Church Pastor Adam Bowles, Reliance Health Executive Director Carrie Dyer and Global City Norwich liaison Suki Lagrito.

Chris Riley, Norwich Public Utilities communications and community outreach manager, and Angela Adams, executive director of the Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce, also will provide brief remarks.

To register for the event, go to www.culturesect.org. This meeting is open to the public. For accessibility accommodations, contact Sarbani Hazra at s.hazra@culturesect.org at least one week in advance.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
