Ledge Light issues COVID-19 mask advisory
New London — With COVID-19 levels rising, Ledge Light Health District on Friday advised all New London County residents to wear a mask when indoors in public settings and while traveling on public transportation.
In the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s latest weekly advisory, New London County and five other Connecticut counties were found to have “high” community levels of the disease, the others being Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven and Windham.
The state’s other counties, Fairfield and Tolland, were classified as “medium” in CDC data posted Thursday night.
Community levels of COVID-19 can be “low,” “medium” or “high,” and are determined by the number of hospital beds in use, hospital admissions and the total number of new COVID-19 cases in a specific geographical area. On Friday, Lawrence + Memorial Hospital reported it had 15 COVID-19 patients while Westerly Hospital had six.
Ledge Light said all nine municipalities within its jurisdiction are classified as “high.” A week ago, New London County was classified as “medium.”
All county residents are advised to:
• Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines.
• Get tested if you have symptoms.
• Wear a mask if you have symptoms, test positive, or were exposed to a positive case.
• Wear a mask indoors in public and on public transportation.
• If you are at higher risk of severe illness, consider taking additional precautions.
Ledge Light said it continues to focus its vaccination efforts on homebound populations and providing initial vaccinations and boosters to those who were vaccinated previously. For more information about vaccinations and COVID-19 testing, visit llhd.org.
