Cops & Comfort Dogs event in Groton to feature more than 20 canine teams

Groton — A Cops & Comfort Dogs meet-and-greet event presented by the Town of Groton Police Department will feature more than 20 dog teams from around New England.

The event will be held 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, at the Thrive 55+ Senior Center, 102 Newtown Road, Groton.

“Join us for this free community & kid-friendly event!” an event notice states. “Meet over 20 Police Comfort/Therapy/Facility/Service Dog Teams from all around New England! These aren’t your traditional Police K9s, but these dogs work alongside police officers every day, bringing comfort to first responders and victims and serving as ambassadors for their PDs. Ask questions, pet some adorable dogs, collect some great SWAG (stickers & playing cards) and take a selfie with some of the best in New England.”

No outside dogs will be allowed at the event. More information is available by contacting town police Officer Heather McClelland at hmcclelland@groton-ct.gov.
