Stonington — The 69th annual Blessing of The Fleet will be held Saturday and Sunday in the borough.

On Saturday from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the Town Dock, 1 High St., there will be an open house that will highlight the work of local fishermen. There will be demonstrations, tours of the fishing vessels Furious and Tradition and an opportunity to talk to fishermen.

From 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, there will be traditional Portuguese food and music at the Portuguese Holy Ghost Society, 26 Main St.

On Sunday at 10:30 a.m. there will be the traditional Fishermen’s Mass at St. Mary Church, 95 Main St. There will then be a procession from the dock though the borough streets. Upon returning, there will be a ceremony at the fishermen’s memorial followed by a parade of boats out into Stonington Harbor, where a wreath will be dropped on the water. The celebration honors those from the fleet who have died at sea and prays for the safety and success of current fishermen.

There will also be food and music at the Town Dock from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
