Connecticut Soaring Association member works on a glider at home

Joe Palmisano works on stripping paint and filler from the fuselage of a Schweizer 1-34 glider Thursday, July 28, 2022, in the side yard of his home in New London. Palmisano is a member of the Connecticut Soaring Association based at Windham Airport. He said the glider was 45 pounds heavier than the 590 pounds it weighed when it came from the factory, and the extra weight was due to the paint and filler. The association wanted to get the glider back to its original company specifications. The glider is one of two single-seat gliders that the association owns and it also owns two two-seat gliders. The wings of the glider are on a second trailer at another location for now. (Dana Jensen/The Day)
