Stonington Garden Club to host climate change program

Stonington ― The Stonington Garden Club will host a free public program on climate change on April 5, at 5:30 p.m. at the La Grua Center in the borough.

“Climate Change: The Perfect Problem” will feature guest speaker Matthew Kotchen, a Yale University economics professor, and will focus on the problem of climate change and realistic solutions from an economic perspective.

Kotchen specializes in environmental and energy economics and has been a Yale faculty member since 2009. He previously held positions at Williams College, the University of California, Stanford University, the Department of the Treasury and the Environmental Protection Agency.

The program title is a reference to the best-selling book “The Perfect Storm,” by Sebastian Junger which centered around a fishing trawler caught in hurricane that had combined with a nor’easter. Similarly, the program looks at climate change as a confluence of conditions that create the “Perfect Problem.”

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
