Second referendum set for Preston budget
Preston ― Residents at a town meeting Wednesday sent the revised proposed 2023-24 school budget to a second referendum June 15 with no changes after the Board of Finance cut $150,000 from the budget last week.
Voters had rejected by 37 votes the initial proposed $14.5 million school budget at a May 25 referendum while approving the $4.9 million town government budget. After the Board of Finance cut $150,000 from the school budget, the new proposed school budget totals $14,380,777.
Voters at Wednesday’s town meeting rejected attempts to cut the budget further. The budget referendum will take place from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 15, at Preston Plains Middle School, 1 Route 164.
