Norwich assistant superintendent placed on leave

Norwich ― Assistant Superintendent Tamara Gloster has been placed on administrative leave, and the Board of Education has scheduled a special meeting Wednesday to discuss and possibly appoint an acting assistant superintendent.

The board will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kelly Middle School. The board will first go into executive session to discuss personnel matters. The agenda also calls for public discussion and a possible vote to name an acting assistant superintendent.

The action comes after the board placed Superintendent Kristen Stringfellow on paid leave Sept. 18 as it investigates personnel complaints about her. Gloster, who was hired by Stringfellow, also was the subject of complaints from current and former staff who alleged the two school leaders fostered a work climate of fear and intimidation.

The board on Sept. 18 named Susan Lessard, the principal of John B. Stanton School and the co-president of the Norwich Administrator's Association, the school administrators’ union, as acting superintendent.

The board is also hiring an outside consultant to conduct the investigation into complaints into Stringfellow.
