Stonington ― Dylan Duncan played an original song as he and girlfriend, Laura Borrelli, both of Boston, sat on the Josh Piver memorial bench at Stonington Point Thursday.

“When we saw the beautiful words on the bench I knew I had to take it out of the case,” he said.

The bench, dedicated to the Stonington resident who was a victim of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York, reads, “Play music. Walk on the beach. I won’t be far from reach.”

The couple is on a road trip from Boston to New York and stopped for lunch on a picnic table at the point after spending the night in Mystic.

Duncan, who plays guitar, sings and writes music for fun, wasn’t planning on playing but took his guitar out of the car so it didn’t get hot while they were eating.
