Waterford will cut ribbon Friday on renovated park
Waterford ― The Recreation and Parks Commission will host a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday for the newly renovated Arnold E. Holm Jr. Park, across the street from the community center.
The ceremony for the $2.2 million renovation will be held at 6 p.m., in the Town Hall auditorium.
The park has gone by many names, including Civic Triangle Park and colloquially, the duck pond, but an event flier for the ribbon cutting confirms the name, and park, are dedicated to Holm, an Army captain and Waterford native whose helicopter was shot down in the Vietnam War.
A memorial for Holm will be at the park’s entrance from Rope Ferry Road, according to Planning Director Jonathan Mullen. The ceremony will feature speeches from local officials, committee members and family friends of Holm, along with refreshments.
Nicholas Cooper, Holm’s grandson, confirmed Thursday that Holm’s widow Margarete Holm will be there.
