    Park rededicated in Waterford for local soldier killed in Vietnam War

    Waterford ― A large group of people gathered at Waterford Town Hall on Friday for the rededication ceremony for the Arnold E. Holm Jr. Memorial Park.

    In attendance was his wife, Margarete Holm of Tallahassee, Fla.; sister, Margaret-Ann Brewster, and niece, Cathie Corridan, of Westbrook, and nephew Richie Weiss, of Quaker Hill.

    The guest speaker was Richie Weiss, Arnold E. Holm’s nephew, and the featured speaker was Ret. Brigadier General Ron Welch, commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs.

    Park committee Chairwoman Miriam Wagner, member Crissy Waggoner, Ryan McNamara, director of Recreation and Parks and First Selectman Rob Brule also spoke during the ceremony.

    Due to the weather, the ribbon cutting at the park will take place at a future date.

    Holm, an Army captain and Waterford native, died when his helicopter was shot down in the Vietnam War.
