Groton ― Firefighter/EMT Matt Bajoras took a turn standing vigil in remembrance of those lost on Sept. 11, 2001 outside the Noank Fire Department on Wednesday morning.
Fire police Capt. Frank Lewis, a life member of the department, started the vigil in 2002.
In 2003, members of the fire company started to volunteer their time to assist with the vigil and stand for a half hour or longer.
In the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, 343 members of the New York City Fire Department perished. Wednesday marked the 23rd anniversary of the attacks.
