Groton ― Alexios Diamantakos, 5 of Oakdale, giggled as he ran after friend Silas Sullivan, 6, of Pawcatuck, who rode a skateboard over the painted ladybugs in the skatepark at Sutton Park on Monday.

They were just two members of a group of three moms and their kids who get together “as often as possible” said Hilary Willis of Groton.

She said they packed their cars full of snacks, skateboards, rollerblades, scooters and toys on Monday, but the kids spent most of the time climbing nearby trees.

“We feel bad when the real skateboarders are here,” she joked as the kids skated through the obstacles and roller bladed on the sidewalks. “They kind of get in the way, but we’re lucky to have the place to ourselves today.”
