Saskatoon — Chad Culp scored with eight seconds left in regulation to force overtime, and Shawn Evans picked up his second of the night three minutes, 17 seconds into sudden death as the New England Black Wolves rallied for a 13-12 win over the Saskatchewan Rush on Saturday night at the SaskTel Center.

The Black Wolves (8-8) trailed 12-9 with 1:24 remaining. That's when Culp scored the first of his two goals to spark a frantic rally, Kyle Buchanan followed less than a minute later with a behind-the-net goal — his fourth of the night —- and Culp found the back of the net again 20 seconds later.

New England is now 6-2 in one-goal games this season.

Kyle Buchanan also had two assists to finish with six points. He was joined at that total by Reilly O'Connor, who had a career-high six assists, including on Evans' game winner.

The Rush (10-5) took a 4-0 lead in the first eight minutes of play, but goals by Kevin Buchanan and Sheldon Burns cut the deficit to 4-2 at the end of the first.

Kyle Buchanan scored just five seconds into the second quarter to put the Black Wolves within one at 4-3, but Jeremy Thompson scored two minutes and 30 seconds later to put the Rush back up two. Kevin Crowley picked up his first of the night with seven minutes remaining in the half to cut the deficit to one again, but the Rush answered with 4:25 left in the quarter with a goal from Mark Matthews to take a 6-4 lead into the break.

Saskatchewan picked up another quick goal to start the third quarter, this time 1:04 in from Matt Hossack, but Kyle Buchanan and Evans each found the back of the net over the next four minutes to bring the Black Wolves back within one with just under 10 minutes to play in the frame. Ryan Keenan answered for the Rush just 29 seconds after Evans' goal and Saskatchewan scored again to go up by three. Kyle Buchanan picked up his hat trick with 5:03 remaining in the quarter but the Rush answered. Zac Reid closed out the scoring in the quarter for the Black Wolves with just 36 seconds remaining to make it 10-8.

Crowley picked up his second of the night 3:25 into the fourth, but the Rush scored twice more to hold a three goal advantage with 8:09 left in regulation. The score would stay at 12-9 for almost seven minutes before Culp picked up his first with 1:24 remaining. Buchanan scored his fourth of the night with 28 seconds remaining. Off of a huge faceoff win by Jay Thorimbert, Culp took a pass from O'Connor and buried it to tie the game and force overtime.

With his two goals, Crowley set a new single-season career-high with 38 goals. Evans had four points on two goals and two assists and needs just four to reach 1,000 for his career. In net, Evan Kirk had 43 saves for New England.

The Black Wolves get back to work on Saturday when they visit the Rochester Knighthawks at 7:30 p.m.
