    Local colleges: Amherst hands Conn men first soccer loss

    Amherst, Mass. — The Connecticut College men's soccer team saw its unbeaten streak end with a 1-0 overtime loss at No. 9 Amherst College on Tuesday in the New England Small College Athletic Conference.

    Kieran Bellew's close-range shot was deflected in by a Camel defender for an own goal in the eighth minute of overtime.

    A.J. Marcucci made a career-high 11 saves for the Camels (8-1-3, 4-1-3). Amherst is 6-1-2, 3-1-2. 

    In other games:

    • Williams College scored two goals 31 seconds apart early in the second half to beat Coast Guard Academy 2-1 in nonconference action. Trailing 2-0, sophomore Brock Hassett set up junior Greg Burnham's first goal of the season at the 65:48 mark to bring the Bears (8-3-1) to within one. Mark Sisco-Tolomeo's goal for Williams (6-1-3) ended CGA's shutout streak at 587 minutes, five seconds.

    Women's soccer

    • Waterford's Claire Hurley scored a second-half goal to lift Coast Guard to a 1-0 victory over Smith in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Association. Kylee Ballard and Gabrielle Auzenbergs set up Hurley's second goal of the season in the 54th minute for the Bears (6-6, 3-3) Ballard settled the ball on the left side of the Smith penalty box and quickly passed to Auzenbergs, who sent a cross in front of the net that a charging Hurley one-timed into the goal.

    Volleyball

    • Wellesley remained unbeaten in the NEMAC a 25-21, 25-23, 25-15 win over Coast Guard. Wellesley is 13-3, 8-0. Angelou Dunton led the Bears (12-7, 4-4) with seven kills and 10 digs while Alex Deane had six kills and Makenna Martin 11 assists.

    • Albertus Magnus defeated Mitchell College 25-18, 25-13, 25-23. Ariana Carter had a career-high seven kills and three blocks for the Mariners (0-13) while Courtney Cappabianca added 15 digs and Lauren Tompkins finished with 10 assists.
