    Local roundup: Dusza leads Waterford to volleyball win

    Waterford — Gretchen Dusza had 27 assists as the Waterford girls' volleyball beat Ledyard on Wednesday 25-22, 25-21, 25-17 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II season-opener for both teams.

    Olivia Pacheco had seven blocks and six aces for Waterford (3-2, 1-0) and Olivia Gianakos had 12 kills.

    Maylyn Haydash had seven assists, Lexy Hanes six blocks and Kira Kassim five kills for the Colonels (1-4, 0-1).

    In other matches:

    • Mackenzie Ullrich had 15 assists, 10 aces, five and three kills and Abby Diamantini added 18 digs as Montville beat Plainfield 22-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-19 in its ECC Division III opener. Haley Kerwin had 12 digs, three kills and three aces, Ashley Rogers had seven digs, four aces and three kills, and Savanna Perkins had three blocks, three aces and three kills.

    • Olivia Carney had 18 assists and Nora Ryan 12 kills as Fitch swept Mercy 25-13, 25-9, 25-12. Aby Hagley had nine digs for Fitch (4-1).

    • Putnam beat New London in an ECC Division IV match, 25-20, 26-24, 25-18. Marissa Parker had six kills and eight digs, Caylee Parker had seven blocks, Anijha Thomas had 14 assists, Chaylet Cintron had seven assists, Natalia Paul had four digs and Yamilka Ramos had three digs for New London (0-4, 0-1).

    • Natalie Low 12 kills and 16 digs as Woodstock Academy gave NFA its first loss of the season, 25-10, 25-15, 25-13 in ECC Division I match. Sammi Orlowski 24 assists for Woodstock (6-0, 2-0) and Paula Hernandez had 19 kills. Bella Llano had 12 assists and 11 digs for the Wildcats (3-1, 0-1) and Eliana Jewell had six kills and six digs.

    H.S. field hockey

    • Zoe Pearse had four goals and two assists as Fitch/Ledyard beat NFA 7-0 in an ECC game. Bridget O'Leary scored twice, Maggie O'Leary had two assists and Renee Prieto had a goal for Fitch/Ledyard (1-2, 1-2). Norah Gallagher made 10 saves for NFA (0-4, 0-4).

    College field hockey

    • Bridget Sullivan had a goal and an assist as unbeaten WPI edged Conn College, 2-1. Angie Ferro scored for the Engineers (6-0). Sophie Pollinger scored for the Camels (2-3) and Jamie Navoni had an assist.

    Men's soccer

    • Uzii Dieng had a goal and two assists as No. 21 Conn College blanked Trinity, 3-0, in a NESCAC game. Christian Murphy scored for the Camels (5-0, 2-0) and A.J. Marcucci had four saves.

    • Matthew O'Donnell scored all of Salve Regina's goals in a 3-0 win over Coast Guard. The Seahawks are 7-0. William Bragaw made a season high seven saves for the Bears (1-4-2).

    • Mitchell College lost to SUNY Old Westbury in a nonleague game, 2-0. Former NFA standout Seth Strader made eight saves for Mitchell (2-3).
