    High school roundup: Redmen inch past Lancers on a wrestling tiebreaker

    Waterford — It came down to a tiebreaker to decide the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II wrestling match between Waterford and Killingly on Thursday.

    Killingly pulled out a 38-37 win by having five pins compared to just two pins and two forfeits for the Lancers.

    Waterford received wins from Mason Concascia (106), Logan Smith (113), Eric Zane (138), A.J. Sachatello (152) and Jacob Gannotti (170). Elijah Morosky (195) and Jeremiah Harshberger (220) won by forfeit. 

    In other matches:

    • Nathaniel Cote registered a pin in 31 seconds in the 138-pound division for Fitch in a 66-12 loss to Griswold. Austin Robertson won by forfeit at 145 for the Falcons (1-11-1).

    • Zack Navarrette clinched the match with a pin at 170 while Blake Chapman (106), Ian Anderson (152) and Kolt MacCracken (220) also won by pins for Montville in a 36-35 win over Windham in Division III. Quinn Bond (126) and Zach Doiron (195) won by decisions while Derrick Deveau won by forfeit for the Indians. 

    Girls' basketball

    • Constance Toldo scored a game-high 21 points to pace Fishers Island past Grasso Tech 47-18. Topaz Baker and Jzaria Howard each scored five points for the Eagles (1-4) while Samarie Delgado added four points and five blocks.

    Gymnastics

    • Stonington finished second in an ECC tri-meet, scoring 128.95 points to beat Killingly-Putnam-Tourtellotte (95.35) and losing to Woodstock Academy (135.85). Hanna Laskey finished in second place on the bars with a score of 8.6 for the Bears. Woodstock's Lydia Taft was the all-around winner (35.2).
