Black Wolves travel 3,100 miles to Vancouver, trying to make it four straight

The New England Black Wolves left for their 3,100-mile road trip to Vancouver without knowing whether leading scorer Callum Crawford, in the midst of appealing a six-game suspension for a match penalty on Feb. 24, would be eligible to play.

The Wolves, however, with a bye last week, did acquire some extra firepower, trading a first-round draft pick in 2022 and a second-round pick in 2019 to the Rochester Knighthawks for forward Joe Resetarits, in his seventh season. Resetarits had 41 points (15 goals, 26 assists) in 10 games with Rochester. He was an All-Pro second team selection in 2017-18.

"We asked about him and talked about it for quite awhile with Rochester," New England coach Glenn Clark said. "With him being their top right-handed shot, they weren't interested in moving him."

Clark said that in light of Rochester's 2-8 record this year and the fact the Knighthawks are in the midst of a move to Halifax, the franchise became interested in piling up draft picks.

Resetarits was set to join New England for Saturday's game at Vancouver (10 p.m.), where the Black Wolves (7-4) will try to extend their three-game winning streak in a matchup with the Warriors (3-8).

New England has not played since March 3 when it outfired the Colorado Mammoth 17-11 at Mohegan Sun Arena behind 11 points from Crawford, four goals and two assists from Tyler Digby and a career-high 49 saves from goalie Doug Jamieson.

The Black Wolves have four members of the team in the NLL's top 25 in points, including Crawford (first, 81), Stephan Leblanc (tied for seventh, 58), Digby (14th, 53) and Reilly O'Connor (tied for 18th, 50). The Wolves, averaging 15.6 goals per game during their current winning streak, are on pace for their highest-scoring season since moving to New England.

Vancouver, also coming off a bye week, is led by Mitch Jones (24 goals, 31 assists, 55 points). The Warriors are playing their first home game since Feb. 16.
