Local roundup: Rutter, Foster lead Camels to victory
New London — Jack Rutter and Jordan Foster scored seven goals each as the Connecticut College men's lacrosse team beat Colorado College 23-12 on Sunday.
Colorado College (7-7) scored the first two goals of the game before Conn outscored it 10-2 for a 10-4 halftime lead. Sean Smith had three goals and an assist, PJ Kelleher had a goal and six assists, Brian Maguire had a goal and an assist and Rutter had two assists for the Camels (5-9). Colin Smith (13) and Billy Dreyer combined for 15 saves for Conn.
Men's track & field
• Coast Guard's Ben Zarlengo continued his big spring by capturing three throwing events at the Springfield College Classic on Saturday. Zarlengo won the the shot put (42 feet, 6 inches), discus (154-10) and hammer (172-8) for the Bears, who also picked up wins from Jacob McGlumpy in the 1,500 meter race (4:05.72), Jason Cho in the pole vault (12-11.5), Javon Wingate in the long jump (21-7.25) and Ed Carroll in the triple jump (43-5.75).
Coast Guard also picked up seconds from James Duren (200, 22.69), Alex Jung (400 meters, 51.43), Colton Atkinson (1,500, 4:07.64), Thomas Jordon (5,000, 16:37.30), Adam Jabril-Barnes (110 hurdles, 15.82), Geoffrey Delorie (400 hurdles, 59.76), Justin Jezuit (discus, 134-7) and John Buchert (shot, 39-4), and thirds from Nick Frystack (200, 22.89), Matt Kerst (1,500, 4:12.48), William Anderson (5,000, 16:40.08) and Buchert (discus, 121-9).
In addition, the Bears received fourths from Jeffrey Meyer (800, 2:05.18), Greg Costello (1,500, 4:13.44), Peter White (5,000, 16:43.94), Jordan Yriarte (shot, 37-6.75) Jacob Pawlina (javelin, 154-3); and fifths from Matt Doyle (1,500, 4:13.83), Harper Harris (5,000, 16:44.54), Carroll (110 hurdles, 16.31), Ryan Taylor (pole vault, 11 feet-11.75) and Justin Jezuit (hammer, 139-7).
• Conn College's Austin DiMartino won the shot put (36-6.25) and finished second in the discus (104-11) at the Trinity Invitational in Hartford on Saturday. In addition, the Camels picked up a win in the 4x100 relay as Jacob Beloin, Sebastian Cox, Ian Anderson and Billy Fleurima finished in 44.97 seconds. Conn also picked up a pair of third-place finishes from Jonathan Handy in the javelin (151-1) and Matthew Sambor in the 110 hurdles (17.59).
Women's track & Field
• Coast Guard had four champions during the Springfield College Classic on Saturday. Anna Beck won the 400 in 57.83, Caroline Jenkins won the 400 hurdles in 1:07.21, Kristina Bynum won the long jump in 16-11.5) and Lelani Salang captured the discus with a throw of 143-0.
Also for the Bears, seconds went to Adora Lawrence in the 200 (26.83), Ariyana Jurkowski in the discus (121-9) and Salang was in the hammer (138-2), while thirds went to Nina Ragle in the 3,000 (11:01.94) and Karen Hovey in the hammer (135-10), fourths went to Kirsten Carson in the 3,000 (11:12.01) and Maeve Roach in the 400 (1:01.32), and fifths went to Mia Huncharek in the 1,500 (5:10.83) and Salang was in the shot (36-8.25).
• Conn College's Emily Senatore won a pair of throwing events at the Trinity Invitational in Hartford on Saturday. The senior won the discus with a throw of 133 feet and the hammer with a throw of 147-4. The Camels' 4x400 relay team of Alicia Palmer, Shannon Kennedy, Ellie Ebby and Leila Alfaro was also victorious in 4:05.21. Also, for Conn, Kaitlin Thomas was second in the triple jump (30-9.75) and third in the long jump (14-5.25), Kennedy was second in the high jump (5 feet) and Elizabeth Hensley was second in the 800 (2:25.18).
College tennis
• No. 8 Tufts beat Conn College 8-1 in a women's New England Small College Athletic Conference match on Saturday. Emily Migliorini won at No. 1 singles for Conn (8-9, 0-6). Also on Saturday, No. 18 Tufts beat Conn (7-8, 1-5) 9-0.
Road racing
• Mark Olivier of North Stonington won his hometown Chikumbuso Challenge on Saturday, finishing the 10K race in 34:46. Brandy LeClair of Groton was the top women's finisher, coming in second with a time of 40:36. Also finishing in the top 10 were Eric Ciocca of Northampton, Mass. (41:42), Jon Pincince of Wakefield, R.I. (42:05), Teddy Nosiku of North Stonington (47:21), James Sweney of Niantic (50:20), Karen Dobley of North Stonington (50:22), Mark Stefanor of Valhalla, N.Y. (51:05), Ryan Hereth of Montpelier, Vt. (51:35) and Ramon Garcia of Boston (52:16).
