    College baseball

    • A day after UConn was eliminated by host Oklahoma State 3-1 in the NCAA Oklahoma City Regional on Monday night, closer Jacob Wallace was selected in the third round of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft by the Colorado Rockies.

Wallace, a 6-foot-1 righthander, was the 100th overall pick. He had a dominating season with the Huskies, who finished 39-25, going 3-1 with 16 saves with an ERA of 0.64 in 30 appearances. He pitched 42 innings while allowing only 20 hits with 10 walks and 67 strikeouts.

He overpowered Oklahoma State in two appearances, striking out all seven batters he faced when UConn beat the Cowboys 5-2 on Sunday to force a winner-take-all game for the regional title, then struck out five of the eight hitters he face during a perfect 2.2 innings of relief to keep the Huskies in the game.

A second UConn player, shortstop Anthony Prato, was taken in the seventh round (209th overall) by the Minnesota Twins. Prato hit .324 for the Huskies with 17 doubles, 51 runs scored and 35 RBI.
