Hartford — Quarterback Frankie Pratts rushed for three touchdowns as New London cruised to a 38-6 football victory over the Capital Prep/Achievement First cooperative program on Thursday night.

The Whalers (4-3) bounced back from last week's tough 26-19 loss to East Lyme with a sharp first half, building a 32-0 lead on a cold, rainy night.

Capital/AT, which will join the Eastern Connecticut Conference as a football-member only in 2020, falls to 1-6.

College volleyball

Top-seeded Babson, ranked No. 18 nationally, cruised to a 3-0 victor over No. 5 Coast Guard Academy in the semifinals of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference tournament.

Game scores were 25-20, 25-16 and 25-10. The Beavers (31-1 with 20 straight wins) will host No. 6 Emerson in Saturday's championship game. Emerson rallied for a 3-2 win over No. 2 Wellesley.

Coast Guard finishes 22-9.

Amanda Dake hit .429 and led the Bears with 10 kills to go with seven digs. Angelou Dunton and Mary Sweet each finished with five kills, Veronica Hine had a team-high 11 digs and Makenna Martin had 15 assists.

Dunton ends her career as one of just four players in program history with 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs as she finished with 1,043 kills (ninth all-time) and 1,019 digs (13th all-time). She also ranks 13th with 150 aces in her career. Martin finishes fifth all-time with 2,800 assists.

Women's basketball

• Old Lyme's Abby Stone and Quaker Hill's Rebekah Sanders combined for 42 points and 26 rebounds as Avery Point beat Bristol Community College 101-57. Stone had 20 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists and four steals and Sanders had 22 points, 15 rebounds and blocked five shots. Ashley Burke had 22 points and five assists and Julitza Delgado scored 12 for the Pointers (1-1).  

College honors

• Coast Guard recently had 11 athletes named to NEWMAC All-Academic teams for the falls season. In men's soccer, juniors Patrick Morris (electrical engineering) and James Morrison (management) were named for the second straight time while junior Cole Williams (management) and sophomore Steven Ferrandino (management) made it for the first time. In women's soccer, senior Valerie Hines (marine and environmental sciences) was named for the third straight season while senior Claire Hurley of Waterford (government) and juniors Felicia Lombardi (government) and Kat Retz (operations research and computer analysis) made it for the second straight season and senior Lizzie Miller (operations research and computer analysis) and sophomore Kate Barnett (marine and environmental sciences) made it for the first time. And in volleyball, junior Veronica Hine (management) was chosen for the second straight year.

NECBL expands

• The New England Collegiate Baseball League added a 13th team with the announcement that the Bristol Blues will join the league for the 2020 summer season. The Blues, formerly of The Futures Collegiate Baseball League, will plays their home games at Muzzy Field and join the Mystic Schooners, Danbury Westerners, Martha's Vineyard Sharks, Newport Gulls and Ocean State Waves in the Southern Division.
