    Local roundup: Four locals play state semifinal games on Tuesday

    Four local schools, including a pair in Class M boys' soccer, will play for berths in Saturday's state championship games when they play in semifinals on Tuesday night.

    Second-seeded Stonington will play No. 19 Plainville at West Haven High School (6:30 p.m.) while No. 12 Ledyard meets top-seeded Ellington at Willow Brook Park in New Britain (6 p.m.).

    In addition, No. 11 Waterford faces No. 15 Haddam-Killingworth in the Class M volleyball semifinals at Fitch High School (6 p.m.) while No. 13 East Lyme faces No. 8 Sheehan in the Class L girls' soccer semifinals at Bunnell High School in Stratford (6 p.m.).

    The Stonington-Plainville matchup is a rematch of last year's semifinal. Plainville beat the Bears 2-1 and went on to defeat Ellington 1-0 in the final.

    A fifth local school, four time-defending champion Old Lyme, will play Northwest Catholic in the Class S girls' soccer semifinals on Wednesday at Xavier High School in Middletown (7 p.m.).

    The eight state championship boys' and girls' soccer finals will be played at either Willow Brook Park or the newly-refurbished Dillon Stadium in Hartford. The matchups and times will be announced following the completion of all semifinal matches.

    If Waterford advances in volleyball, the Class M championship match will be played on Saturday at 1 p.m. at East Haven High School.

    Women's basketball

    • Amina Wiley had 15 points, 12 rebounds and five steals to lead Mitchell College to a 63-58 win over Fisher Colleget. Kelsey Hernandez added 12 points for the Mariners (1-1).

    College honors

    • Connecticut College's Sami Ashton was named New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week in women's basketball. The senior guard from Morgan in Clinton averaged 22.5 points and shot 59.3 percent from the floor in a pair of games as the Camels won the Dean College Tip-Off Tournament. She also averaged 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 assists.

    • UConn's Olivia Nelson-Ododa was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week in women's basketball. The sophomore forward averaged 14.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 5.0 blocks during two wins for the No. 4 Huskies. She is averaging 13.3 points and 11.7 rebounds for the season and has had a double-double in each game. UConn hosts West Virginia on Tuesday night at the XL Center in Hartford.

    H.S. football

    • The Fitch athletic department will be honoring ts football alumni during the annual Thanksgiving Day game against Ledyard on Thursday, Nov. 28, at 10 a.m. at Dorr Field. Former players will be recognized at halftime as Fitch celebrates 90 years of football while members of the Class of 1979, 1994 and 1999 teams are invited to a reunion breakfast before the game.
