    Black Wolves win opener 12-8

    Toronto — The New England Black Wolves opened their season with a 12-8 win over the Toronto Rock in a National Lacrosse League game on Saturday night.

    Callum Crawford scored three goals and Jordan Durston and Joe Resetarits had two goals each for New England. Tony Malcom, Colton Watkinson, Stephen Leblanc, Andrew Kew and Nick Chaykowsky each scored a goal and Doug Jamieson made 46 saves for the Black Wolves.

    Toronto took a 2-0 lead before the Black Wolves scored four straight goals, two by Resetarits. The Rock scored the final goal of the first period, but New England scored the first four of the second period to take a 7-3 lead. Toronto scored the next three goals before New England took an 8-6 halftime lead on a goal by Leblanc.

    Toronto scored the first two goals of the second half to tie the game at 8-8. Kew's first career goal gave New England a 9-8 lead which it never relinquished. Crawford scored twice and Chaykowsky closed out the scoring.

    New England plays next Saturday on the road against the Saskatchewan Rush. The game begins at 8:30 p.m.
