    Local roundup: Ericson leads the way as NFA girls win fourth straight

    Norwich — Sarah Ericson made four 3-pointers and scored 21 for Norwich Free Academy in its 52-34 win over East Lyme on Thursday in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I girls’ basketball game.

    Jada Mills scored 17 for NFA (7-2, 2-1), which has won four straight heading into Tuesday's matchup with Division I leader New London.

    Sophie Dubreuil scored 16 of her 20 points in the second half for East Lyme (3-7, 1-2).

    In other games:

    • Maya Hillman had 19 points as Montville used a strong third quarter to top Ledyard 43-35. Alexis DeLucia scored 11 for Montville (6-4), which outscored the Colonels 11-2 in the third quarter to take a 31-23 lead. Tajeah Winston scored 12 for Ledyard (1-8).

    • Alyssa Virtue had 18 points in Fitch's 46-27 victory over Killingly. Nyseanah Ishmael added six points, eight rebounds and nine assists for Fitch (7-4) and Charlotte Carney and Rita Sefransky each added eight points.

    • Lili Kramer had 15 points and Marilyn Childs 11 for Waterford in a 72-34 loss to Wethersfield. Nicole Gwynn led Wethersfield with 21.

    • Abby St. Martin had 16 points for Putnam as it downed St. Bernard 45-22 in an ECC Division IV game. Sophia Boras scored 15 for St. Bernard (5-4, 3-2).

    • Jamiah Gardner finished with 23 points as Metro Learning Center defeated Grasso Tech 47-27. Sophie Byrne and Samarie Delgado each scored seven points for Grasso Tech (1-8), which trailed 19-6 at halftime.

    Boys' basketball

    • Metro Learning Center built a 29-11 lead at halftime and went on to beat Grasso Tech 50-40. Dominic Martinez had 15 points for Grasso Tech (3-5).

    Men's basketball

    • The Mitchell JV beat Avery Point 66-58. Waterford's Trevor Yeomans scored 20, Montville's John Domijan had 12 points and nine rebounds and Mitchell Holdmeyer had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Pointers (5-8).

    Women's basketball

    • ASA Brooklyn beat Avery Point 73-52. Old Lyme’s Abby Stone had 21 points and five assists, Preston’s Carsen Keith had 13 rebounds and Kalianna Dingui scored 11 for the Pointers (8-5).

    Wrestling

    • Coast Guard Academy cracked the top 10 in the National Wrestling Coaches' Association Division III poll, moving up one spot to 10th to match the program's highest national ranking. The Bears were tied for 10th in the preseason poll this year. Coast Guard, ranked second in New England, has won all three tournaments it has wrestled and is 1-1 in dual matches, including a 17-16 to Johnson and Wales (No. 1 in New England and No. 6 nationally).

    The Bears have four wrestlers that are ranked nationally. Patrick Irwin is fourth at heavyweight, Paul Detwiler is fifth at 184 pounds, AJ Aeberli is sixth at 174 pounds and Jon Wagner is seventh at 197 pounds. Irwin, Wagner and Aeberli are all the top ranked wrestlers in New England while Detwiler is ranked second behind John Boyle from Western New England.

    Coast Guard is back in action Sunday at the New England Duals at the RI Convention Center in Providence beginning at 9:30 a.m. The Bears enter as the No. 2 seed behind top-seeded Johnson & Wales, as the Bears eye a rematch with the Wildcats in the championship match.
