Local roundup: UConn men to join Irish, USC and Vandy in Legends Classic
Storrs — The UConn men's basketball program has been selected to play in the 14th annual Legends Classic at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
The Huskies will be joined in the championship rounds (Nov. 23-24) by Notre Dame, Southern California and Vanderbilt.
All four teams will also host a pair of regional round games, although the complete field, and schedule won't be announced until a later date.
The four-team championship round field will bring together teams from four major conferences — the Big East (UConn rejoins in 2020-21), Atlantic Coast Conference (Notre Dame), Pac-12 (Southern Cal) and Southeastern Conference (Vanderbilt).
Auburn won the 2019 Legends Classic, defeating Mexico 84-59 in the semis and Richmond 79-65 in the title game.
• In other UConn news, freshman guard James Bouknight has bee named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week. Bouknight averaged 22.5 points per-game in victories over Tulsa (72-56) and Cincinnati (72-71 in overtime). Both were atop the AAC standings at the time. He shot .636 from three-point range in the two games and scored 19 of his 23 points in the second half and overtime against the Bearcats, including two big free throws with 1:05 left in overtime for the game's final points. Bouknight was previously named AAC Freshman of the Week on Nov. 25.
• Connecticut College completed a seven-game road trip with a 70-52 non-conference loss to Babson. Sami Ashton led Conn (7-15) with 11 points and three steals while Nancy Coulverson had seven rebounds and four blocked shots.
• Bancroft School rolled to a 46-13 win over Williams School. Olivia Kaplan scored five points to lead the Blues (3-8).
