Local roundup: UConn, Notre Dame women's game off this season

Storrs — The start of a new four-year series between the UConn and Notre Dame women's basketball programs has been pushed back to the 2021-22 season, the two rivals announced on Monday.

The delay came about due to Notre Dame's need to restructure its schedule because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first game in the series will now take place in the 2021-22 season at UConn, followed by a game at Notre Dame in 2022-23, a game back at UConn in 2023-24 and the final game in 2024-25 at Notre Dame.

The last time the Huskies and Irish didn't compete in the regular season was during the 2013-14 season, although they met every season, including the postseason, since the 1995-96 season.

    Sun to host men's event

    • Villanova, Baylor, Boston College and Arizona State will compete in the 2K Empire Classic men's basketball tournament on Nov. 25-26 at Mohegan Sun Arena. The event, which benefits the Wounded Warriors Project, was originally scheduled to be held at Madison Square Garden in New York but was moved due to the uncertainty of opening indoor arenas in the city because of COVID-19.
