New London — Mitchell College won three major awards and had a total of 10 players named all-conference when the New England Collegiate Conference announces its regular-season baseball honors on Thursday.

Junior Dougie DelaCruz of Montville was named NECC Player of the Year while senior Roland Thivierge was named Pitcher of the Year and Travis Beausoleil was named Coach of the Year.

All three were repeat winners. They won the same awards in 2019 before COVID-19 canceled the 2020 season.

Mitchell, the regular-season champion, will host the NECC tournament starting Friday against Becker at 9:30 a.m. in the first game of the double-elimination tournament.

DelaCruz and Thivierge also earned spots on the All-NECC first team for the Mariners along with sophomore pitcher Camren Varney, sophomore catcher Matt Falk, junior outfielder Hunter Yaworski, senior utility Jakari Pellegrini and senior designated hitter Anthony Diaz.

Mitchell was represented on the second team by senior second baseman Anthony Laureano, sophomore third baseman Lelo Martinez of New London and senior shortstop Jeremy Sagun of Montville. Senior David Appelbaum was named to the All-NECC sportsmanship team.

DelaCruz, the starting left fielder, hit .471 in conference play with 24 hits, 34 RBI, an .843 slugging percentage and five home runs.

Thivierge led the NECC in innings pitched (43.0), wins (6) and strikeouts (46) while posting a 1.50 ERA in conference play.

Beausoleil, now in his 10th season at Mitchell, led the Mariners (21-6 overall) to a first-place finish in the conference for a seventh-straight season with a 14-2 record. He also received Coach of the Year honors in 2015 and 2019.

    Softball

    • Mitchell had three players earn All-NECC honors as junior second baseman Madison Nicynski was named to the first team and freshman pitcher Katelyn Lipsky and freshman utility player Hannah Lemke were named to the second team. Nicynski was also named to the All-NECC sportsmanship team.

    Women's track and field

    • Coast Guard Academy's Ethan Brown has been named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Coach of the Year for the first time. Brown led the Bears to their highest finish (second) in program history in last weekend's NEWMAC championships and had five athletes win individual titles.

    Women's lacrosse

    • Connecticut College's Abbie Cronin, a senior defender, was named to the All-New England Small College Athletic Conference second team, the first time she earned all-conference honors in her career. Cronin led the Camels with eight caused turnovers and tied for first with eight ground balls.
