Saluting our dads: The Pagan sisters and father Moises Pagan

Moises Pagan has always taken great pride in following the basketball careers of daughters Taina and India. He his shown here posing with his family (from left)Taina, Melody, grandson Greyson, India and his wife Carmen. (Photo courtesy of Pagan family)

Moises Pagan loves to watch India and Taina, his middle and youngest daughters, play basketball. He also loves to sing, which he does at church and family events.

Pagan managed to do both when Taina, his youngest daughter, was a New London High School senior in 2019.

“He made it a goal to sing at my Senior Night,” she said. “He [sang the National Anthem] and everyone was screaming because nobody knew he could sing. He has the most amazing voice.”

Moises Pagan has had a big influence on Taina and her sisters. Melody, the oldest, is the singer amongst the three. India and Taina gravitated towards basketball, which their father played when he was younger (along with baseball).

India finished her senior year at Stony Brook this season (she’s spent the previous two weeks in Puerto Rico playing for that country’s national team at the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup tournament).

Taina plays at Post University in Waterbory. Moises and his wife Carmen would always be at their games, splitting up on those days when Post and Stony Brook, which is located on Long Island, were playing.

“His dad was never at his games, so he made it a priority to be at ours,” Taina Pagan said. “He’d be there to cheer us on and available to get us anything we needed, whether it was drinks or food. He would literally be by our side.

“He’s everything. He’s energetic. He’s outgoing. He’s a storyteller. He’s kind. He’s helpful in every way. He’s loving. He’s the number one man in all our lives, my sisters and my mom. He’s the most amazing thing to happen to us."
