    Local roundup: East Lyme advances to state 8-10 baseball championship round

    Stamford — East Lyme advanced to the championship round of the state Little League ages 8-10 baseball tournament, beating Shelton 9-7 in the losers' bracket final on Sunday.

    East Lyme plays undefeated Westport on Monday at 7 p.m. An East Lyme victory would force a deciding game on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Westport beat East Lyme 14-1 on Saturday night.

    Blake Gianakos tripled and drove in three runs for East Lyme. Ethan Chantrell was 3-for-4 with two RBI, Kyle Cellemme had two hits and scored twice and Greyson Biggs and John Roberts scored two runs each.

    • The Mystic Schooners finished off their regular season with a 10-9 loss in 10 innings to the Valley Blue Sox. Mystic (22-18-1) will be in the New England Collegiate Baseball League playoffs, which begin on Tuesday.

    Michael DeMartino (SCSU) was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI, Barry Walsh (Boston College) doubled and Christopher Brito (Rutgers) had two hits and scored twice. Brito also hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs as the Schooners tied the Martha's Vineyard Sharks 6-6 in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.

    • The Pittsfield Suns swept a doubleheader from the Norwich Sea Unicorns in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League. Pittsfield won the opener 6-4 and took the second game 15-1 in five innings. Jack Blake (ECSU) had two hits and drove in two runs and Hunter Yaworski (Mitchell) and Ian Battipaglia (Franklin Pierce) had two hits each for Norwich in the first game (25-33) and Battipaglia had two hits in Game 2.
