Local roundup: Sea Unicorns win doubleheader opener
Brockton, Mass. — The Norwich Sea Unicorns beat the Brockton Rox 7-3 in the first game of a Futures Collegiate Baseball League doubleheader on Tuesday.
The Sea Unicorns (9-13) scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to blow the game open, capped by a two-run homer by Andrew Bianco (New Haven). Tremayne Cobb Jr. (Hartford) had two hits and Ryan Hyde (UConn) scored twice for Norwich. Sean Wininger (Central Connecticut) started on the mound and allowed five hits and no runs over three innings.
Zone 6 Legion
• Norwich scored seven runs in the sixth inning and beat Moosup 11-4. Patrick Terry and Elliott Johnson had two hits each for Norwich. Daniel St. George earned the win, allowing three runs over 5.1 innings.
District 10 softball (8-10)
• Mikaela Richter struck out 11 as she pitched East Lyme to a 6-3 win over Montville. Kennah Perkins had two hits and scored twice for East Lyme and teammate Emma Knowlton made some nice plays at shortstop. Isabella Kobyluck pitched for Montville and struck out 10 batters.
District 10 softball (10-12)
• Waterford beat Ledyard 12-3 on Monday as Gabrielle Fontaine pitched a no-hitter with 15 strikeouts. Mia Majeski, Gianna Duzant and Fontaine had three hits each and Evie Bellos had two hits for Waterford. Julia Bonser scored twice for Ledyard.
• Groton/Mystic beat East Lyme 11-6 on Monday. Kayla Gibson was the winning pitcher and was also 2-for-2 with a double and three RBI. Sydney Archambault doubled and scored three times for Groton/Mystic. Natalie Knowlton was 2-for-3 with a double and scored a run for East Lyme.
