Make a difference: St. Vincent de Paul Place

Who: Brady, a 26-year Army veteran.

Agency: St. Vincent de Paul Place, 120 Cliff St., Norwich, CT 06360.

His situation: Brady, a 57-year-old Army veteran, is trying to make a decent life for himself while living with a traumatic brain injury. His military career ended with a dishonorable discharge after 26 years and deployments to places including Iraq, Kuwait and Afghanistan. He learned that he is ineligible for veterans’ aid, including medical and housing services. He has lived in an unheated barn without utilities for more than a year. He works 15 hours a week with the Easterseals job training program, collects food stamps and health insurance as state benefits and drives a beat-up van that currently is out of commission. Recently, he was granted a permanent supportive housing voucher and will be moving into a place of his own. Brady needs help to get his van back on the road, gas cards and items for his new home.

What to give: Gas cards, store gift cards, help with car repairs.

To donate: Contact Jillian Corbin, executive director, or Julie Way, case manager, at (860) 889-7374 or jwsvdpp@gmail.com.
