Make A Difference: Mother's Retreat
Who: A 25-year-old single mother
Agency: Mother's Retreat, a Groton-based treatment program run by The Connection that helps pregnant and parenting women in recovery.
Family situation: The single mother of a newborn son is living in a residential program and applying for jobs. Her goals are to obtain safe and affordable housing for herself and her son and maintain her sobriety. She is optimistic about her recovery, well-grounded, easy-going and personable, according to her case manager Amy Gagne.
"She just really wants to focus on being the best mom she can be for her son," Gagne said.
What to give: She could use weather-appropriate clothing, including size 10 jeans, medium-sized shirts and jacket and hygiene products. Her infant son needs winter clothing size 3-6 months, size 1 diapers and age-appropriate toys. Grocery store gift cards, gift cards to local community stores (Dollar Tree, Walgreens, Dunkin Donuts, Walmart), movie tickets and SEAT bus tickets also would be helpful.
To donate: Contact Mother's Retreat at (860) 405-2107.
