Access Health CT releases enrollment numbers, reminds customers of deadline

Access Health CT, the state’s online health insurance marketplace, on Friday released the latest enrollment numbers and reminded those who have not yet signed up about the pending deadline.

“We want customers to know there’s not a lot of time left to enroll in healthcare coverage for 2017 — you’ve got until January 31 to pick a new plan or renew your current plan,” Jim Wadleigh, chief executive officer for Access Health CT, said in a news release.

Wadleigh also reminded customers who bought plans through Access Health CT in 2016 with HealthyCT and United Healthcare that these insurance companies are no longer participating in the exchange in 2017.

“This means they need to contact us before Jan. 31 and pick a new plan to have health insurance coverage for 2017 and to avoid a potential tax penalty of $695 or more,” he said.

The numbers below are as of the end of day on Dec. 29 are:

• Unique website visitors: 234,695

• Calls answered: 267,680

• New health plan enrollees since Nov. 1: 27,035

• Number of new enrollees who are first time customers: 10,298 (subset of number above)

• Medicaid – (completed applications/redeterminations processed through the integrated eligibility system): 54,277

• Number of new Medicaid applications from first time customers: 11,782 (subset of number above)

• Total currently active for 2016 and/or 2017 in private health insurance coverage: 114,421

If customers enroll by midnight on Jan. 15, they will have coverage beginning Feb. 1, Access Health CT said. If they enroll by midnight on Jan. 31, coverage will begin on March 1.

Customers are reminded that Access Health CT is the only place where they can qualify for tax credits.

“Close to 80 percent of our customers get financial help to pay for their coverage, which means that they don’t pay the entire cost of their coverage,” Wadleigh said. He added that consumers need to know that they cannot qualify for the premium tax credit on their tax return at the end of the year either if they do not purchase their health insurance through Access Health CT.

“Our call center and enrollment centers are open through the holidays to help people shop for coverage,” he said.
