Community forum on coyotes to be held Monday in New London

New London — Mayor Michael Passero and acting Police Chief Peter Reichard announced that they are inviting the public to a community forum Monday evening on coyotes in the city.

The forum will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 24, in the cafeteria of the Nathan Hale Arts Magnet School, 37 Beech Drive.

City officials and members of the police department, along with a nuisance wildlife biologist from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, are hosting the community meeting.

According to a news release, the goal of the meeting is to listen to concerns regarding the coyote population in the city, address issues and share accurate information with the community.

"The City is proactively working with the State DEEP to address the concerns of our community and manage reasonable solutions to best deal with the concerns with the wildlife 'coyote' population while insuring the protection of our citizens, domestic pets and the wildlife," the news release stated.
