Gov. Ned Lamont and Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz brought some attention to tourism destinations in the area Tuesday, visiting Mystic Aquarium, Mystic Seaport Museum and several downtown Mystic businesses before heading to Stonington Farm Vineyards in Stonington.

Their downtown stops included Grass & Bone, The Whaler's Inn, Bank Square Books, Adore, Fat Face and The Mariner, according to Peggy Roberts, president of the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce.

“Mystic businesses are at a whole new level with culinary tourism and tourism experiences,” Roberts said. “We were so proud to share them with the governor and lieutenant governor.”

Mystic Seaport Museum shuttled Lamont, Bysiewicz and others in their group up the Mystic River from the downtown drawbridge aboard the museum’s launch, Liberty, said Dan McFadden, the museum’s director of communications. Accompanied by state Sen. Heather Somers, R-Groton, the governor and the lieutenant governor toured the museum’s Mayflower II restoration, walked the grounds and viewed an exhibition in the Thompson Exhibition Building, McFadden said.

They then visited Saltwater Farms Vineyard, touring its tasting room, meeting staff and tasting wine, said Michael Connery, the vineyard owner. “We were flattered to have them,” Connery said.

Lamont’s itinerary Wednesday calls for him to visit Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, the Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport and Norwalk Aquarium.
