USS Sailfish class joins the fleet

Groton — Seventy-eight sailors of "Class 18140," USS Sailfish, graduated from Basic Enlisted Submarine School on March 2.

Electrician's Mate 3rd Class Stephen Reuwer was Class Honor Graduate with a 98.5 GPA, and will continue in apprentice team training.

Seaman Chris Ramjattansingh was recipient of the Navy Core Values Award and Sonar Technician Surface 3rd Class Briana Galland received the Submarine Heritage Award.

Seaman Recruit Stephen Pierceall, Machinist's Mate 3rd Class Henry Bierke, Seaman Recruit Mark Counts, Seaman Recruit Stephen Steding, Seaman Apprentice William Parker, Seaman Recruit Hugh Mugavero, Aviation Ordnanceman 1st Class Nicole Jordan, Hull Technician 2nd Class Celia Grijalva, Electronics Technician Communications 3rd Class Michael Thompson, Seaman Michael Kavusak, Seaman Apprentice Ell Booysen, Seaman Recruit Jalen Causey, Seaman Recruit Stephen Myers, Seaman Recruit Garret Wittenmyer, Seaman Apprentice Izaiah Matthews, Information Systems Technician Senior Chief Jessica Cooper, Seaman Recruit Ryan Kim, Logistics Specialist Submarines Seaman Apprentice Devin Shepodd, and Seaman James Syers were graduates with distinction.

Basic Enlisted Submarine School is a six-week introduction to the basic theory, construction and operation of nuclear-powered submarines. In preparation for an assignment, sailors receive instruction on shipboard organization, submarine safety and escape procedures.
