Members of local Young Marines unit travel to Pearl Harbor for 77th anniversary of attack

Five members of the Three Rivers Unit of the Young Marines, who drill weekly at the Coast Guard Academy, were part of a wreath-laying ceremony in Pearl Harbor on Dec. 6, and marched in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade the next day as part of the 77th anniversary of the surprise Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

They were among the 124 Young Marines from 25 separate units throughout the U.S. that traveled to Hawaii to participate in events marking the 77th anniversary.

Some of the Young Marines from Three Rivers were also honored to meet Pearl Harbor survivor Everett Hyland, who is a native of Stamford, and was aboard the USS Pennsylvania BB-38 on that fateful day.
