Base security drills will include live weapons firing Wednesday morning

Groton — The Naval Submarine Base will be conducting security drills, which will include live automatic weapons firing with blanks, along the waterfront Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The drills will involve base security boats and boats acting as the enemy. The weapons firing will support the annual event Solid Curtain - Citadel Shield 2019 taking place at Navy installations across the country. The exercises test different areas of the Navy's anti-terrorism program by simulating real-world threats.

Locally, the training will enhance the readiness of base's security forces to respond to threats to the base and its homeported submarines.
