New London Veterans Affairs Committee updates veterans on its work

New London — The New London Veterans Affairs Committee is still assisting the city's residents despite ongoing renovations at City Hall.

The committee's office will soon be relocated to the New London Senior Center at 120 Broad St., but its email, DVA@newlondonct.org, and phone number, (860) 440-6691, will remain the same.

The commitee had to cancel the 2020 Military Appreciation Day event at Ocean Beach Park due to the coronavirus pandemic, but barring any new restrictions from Gov. Ned Lamont, the city and Ocean Beach are offering free admission to the beach to area veterans, active duty military and their families on Aug. 22. In order to access the beach, they must present a military ID card, veterans ID card, dependents ID card or DD-214. Face masks and social distancing will be required.

The public is invited to sit on the committee's virtual meetings, which take place on the third Thursday of every month. Call or email the committee to receive access information for the meetings.

An invitation is forthcoming for the dedication ceremony for the Walk of Honor project at the Williams Memorial Park. The committee is awaiting its first order of memorial bricks. Installation is tentatively scheduled for the middle of this month.
