The Old Man and the Gun

Could this really be it for Robert Redford? The 82-year-old actor has said that “The Old Man and the Gun” will probably be his last performance, although then he walked that statement back. Well, if it is Redford’s farewell, “The Old Man” gives him a perfect character with which to showcase his inimitable charm and his appreciable acting talent. He plays a 70-something who’s a genial gentleman — and who loves to rob banks, albeit in the most kindly way. While Redford beguiles, the movie itself needs more energy and the directing more snap.
