Creating fantastical worlds: ILM’s Aaron McBride gives talk

Aaron McBride grew up in Ledyard and has spent the last two decades creating creatures, technologies, and out-of-this-world locales for major motion pictures.

Aaron McBride is the senior art director at Industrial Light & Magic and has created many of the creatures and locales in recent Star Wars films and other movies, including The Avengers and Pirates of the Caribbean.

How major? Well, they include a number of “Star Wars” flicks, as well as “The Avengers,” “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Jurassic World.”

McBride, who is senior art director at the famed Industrial Light & Magic visual effects company, will give a live Zoom presentation on Saturday sponsored by Bill Memorial Library of Groton. I interviewed McBride in 2020 for an article in The Day, and I can tell you that he’s got fascinating tales to tell.

Aaron McBride grew up in Ledyard and graduated from The Williams School.

On Saturday, he’ll discuss his creative process and how moviemaking has changed. Afterward, there will be a Q&A.

Aaron McBride, 1 p.m. Saturday, virtual sponsored by Bill Memorial Library of Groton; free, registration required: (860) 445-0392.
