The Mystic Film Festival returns — for its seventh year — with more than 95 movies being screened.

There are short and feature-length productions, in both narrative and documentary form. There are student projects and releases from all over the globe.

Just a sample of the offerings: The narrative feature “Broken Pieces” focuses on five people in New York crossing paths and realizing the interconnectedness of their lives. In the feature documentary “76 Days,” a man is left drifting alone in his small craft for 76 days on the Atlantic Ocean after a whale collides with his boat. The narrative short “Knead” finds an alien driving people — except one woman — to chase their deepest dreams.

In addition, the fest boasts appearances by renowned film figures.

Susan Seidelman, who directed “Desperately Seeking Susan” featuring Madonna, and “She-Devil” starring Meryl Streep, will discuss her memoir, “Desperately Seeking Something,” from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at La Grua Center.

Actress Illeana Douglas, whose work has included “Goodfellas,” “To Die For,” “Larry Sanders” and “Six Feet Under,” will receive the festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award at 7 p.m. Sunday at Mystic Luxury Cinemas. Douglas recently published the book “Connecticut in the Movies: From Dream Houses to Dark Suburbia.”

Janet Roach, an Old Lyme native who was nominated for an Oscar for co-writing “Prizzi’s Honor,” will offer two different workshops on “Polishing Your First Draft,” one at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and one at noon Sunday.

Festival events will be held at Mystic Luxury Cinemas, La Grua Center, United Theatre of Westerly and the Mystic Aquarium Milne Center.
