Felon gets 10 years for having gun used to kill child

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A Tennessee man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for possessing the gun authorities say a toddler used to fatally shoot a 7-year-old.

Twenty-eight-year-old Anthony Patrick Sanders was sentenced Wednesday for having two guns as a felon.

U.S. Attorney Don Cochran says Harmony Warfield was shot in June 2017 in a Nashville apartment with three other children present, ages 14, 11 and 2. Authorities say the 2-year-old was holding the gun before the 7-year-old was shot in the head.

Prosecutors say Sanders left the gun where anyone could access it, and took it and fled to Ohio after the shooting. He was indicted eight days later and pleaded guilty in November.

Court documents show Sanders had been released from prison in June 2016 after a 2008 kidnapping conviction.
